You want to start your day of right? Well read on.
Do you ever feel like when you get up in the morning the day starts too slow? Maybe your mood or energy is in a funk? Well, how you start your morning off sets the stage for how the rest of the day unfolds. Anything can happen during your day, but how you start your day will affect how you deal with what the day brings.
3 Tips – Starting Your Day
Mindful Moment
It’s helpful to start your day by simply acknowledging where you’re starting at. What emotions are you feeling, how is your body, is your mind still or are you already off to your schedule? If you are laying down just acknowledge that, simply get a read on whether your body is calm or active. What is on your mind? What emotions might you be feeling? Are you rushed, overwhelmed, annoyed, calm, anxious?
Set the Stage
Now that you’ve done the mindful moment, begin to lean your thinking toward opening up to the goodness of the day and consider a gratitude check. What specific things are you grateful for right now? Something from yesterday perhaps? Something that is happening or could happen today? Practice opening your mind to the goodness that is occurring in your life.
Stay Where You Are
The old brain races ahead, this happens when you jump on your phone, don’t do this! Hoping on your phone right when you wake up launches your mind into ‘all the day’ and a flurry of thoughts. Now, when you get up and are in the shower, simply be in the shower, not wondering about work or stressing about kids that need breakfast. When you are making breakfast, allow your mind to operate on purpose, consider what you are doing. Be present with those in your home, if someone is leaving say goodbye, if others are working on something greet them and ask them how they slept.
Affirm Your Mind
I’m not sure what your average day looks like. It’s different for everyone, and the morning routine can be different as well. You can affirm your mind along the way and find that you are more calm, more confident, and more balanced in the day from this affirming process.
Let me explain. Tell yourself what kind of day you are going to have. It doesn’t matter if it might be stressful, or difficult, tell yourself, yes that’s right, tell your entire body that you are going to have … e.g. “I’m going to be great today” or “this will all work out I’ve got this” … or “I will find time to be still” … or “I am going to be strong today I am and will be” … these are examples of you affirming yourself. The body and brain do what your mind tell them! You ARE in charge of your mind.
Now, get after it! Get out there and do these three things each morning and watch how your life changes.
